218 coupe vvc - workshop manual / oil change
Is there such a thing as a workshop manual for the coupe, either in print or on the internet? All I want to do is change the engine/gearbox oil!
I know everyones enthusiastic about doing a bit on there own cars but what it costs when one local fast fit in doing a silly pro mo i`d use 1 of them for my oil and filter changes. No mess . No getting rid of old oil and filter job done some times for about £15.
Of course thats just your engine oil and filter.
Let them tell you that you need this and that and drive away saving time and money.
I`m in the trade and I use a local dumb fit to do mine when i do the odd cash in hand service!!!!!

If all you want to do is an oil and filter change then it is fairly straightforward.
Drain the oil from the sump plug
Remove the filter
Replace with new filter (smear rubber oil seal with oil first)
Tighten by hand only
Replace sump plug
Fill with correct quantity of good oil (semisynthetic or fully synthetic)
Start car.
Run for a minute
Stop car.
Wait for a minute
Check oil level and top up as necessary.
To do the gearbox you'll need special oil (MTF94 I think if it is a PG1 gearbox). 2.2 litres of it. You cna get it from honda, rover and landrover dealers. Landrover ones are usually the cheapest.
Remove the drain plug in the end of the gearbox. check how much oil comes out - oil loss is the biggest killer of PG1 gearboxes. Undo the filler bolt also in the end of the gearbox just behind the passengerside driveshaft
It'll be tight!
Replace the drain plug
Then get funnel and attach some tubing to it - this makes the job a lot easier and fill the gearbox through the filler hole until oil just starts coming back out of it. Replace the filler bolt and job done.
