Changing headlamp?

Post by 214GSI »

More advice than help.

Changed a headlamp today.
My haynes manual 89'-'92, did not mention the lower bolt that has to be slackened to enable the headlamp to slide clear of the support.
If I had not been cautious- I could easily have attemped to pull the lamp out and broken the plastic mounting.

The plastic trim piece below the lamp is a bit flimsy, and looks easy to break.

Yes the lower bolt is a pain to get at unless you have fog lamps you can remove to get access to them.

Also the plastic "hockey stick" under the lamp is indeed fairly fragile. I don't think I ever remember seeing one that had all its clips intact!

Also as a side note, if you want to remove the bumper, don't take any notice of the manual that says you have to remove the headlamps. You don't as I found out lastnight when I was stripping the car apart.

If I remember correctly, my '93 Coupe didn't have that bolt underneath the headlight. I wonder if thats because it wasn't an adjustable one.

I may be wrong though.
