SRS Warning light
SRS Warning light
Hi I have just joined the forum, so am not too sure of what to do, so I will just ask my question and hope that someone will be able to help.
I have got a Rover 45 and I keep getting the SRS warning light staying on intermitantly. I have been told by the garage that it is a common fault with Rover cars and not to worry, but I would love for someone to be able to tell me why this happens.
Hoping to get advice from some knowledable person.
Regards Rita.

Re: SRS Warning light
Two common causes.
1. The rotary coupler behind the steering wheel
2. Loose connections under the driver (or passenger) seat.
The latter is more common and its a simple case of unplugging and plugging them back in (it is safest to disconnect the battery first).

Re: SRS Warning light
Thank you for your advice, I tried it and it was a connection problem behind the front seats, everything seems to be working ok now, many thanks once again....Rita
Re: SRS Warning light
Hi I have sorted the problem with SRS warning light, thanks to you, but a new problem has reared its ugly head and that is when I tried to start the car it just kept making a burring sound, I had to get the aa to tow me home, the next day I tried starting the car again and it atarted first time so decided to take it for a trial drive but as soon as I opened the door the alarm went off and wouldnt stop, it did eventually (I dont know what I did) but before trying again I wondered if you had any idea what is happening.
Many thanks Rita

Loose battery connection
Loose or broken or corroded earth strap (the one going to the slam panel is a common failure).

Re: SRS Warning light
Yes, no problem.
The earth strap is the metal cable from the negative (-) terminal of the battery to the chassis. There is one that runs to the slam panel. This is the panel that the bonnet closes onto, the one that the headlamps are mounted to. There is a short black earth strap from the battery to the slam panel to the left hand side of the righthand headlamp. Where it connects to the slam panel often breaks or corrodes. This will cause battery voltage fluctuations which could turn on the ABS light and also cause starting issues.
There is also a seperate earth strap that runs to the chassis and then to the gearbox. Also make sure this is tight and intact.
Also check both battery terminals are tight as this can give the same issues.

Re: SRS Warning light
The alarm went off as you unlocked the door with the key or didnt lock it.
Common problem on the HHR and the 45 is the Honda door connector. There wires break in the connector and as the door lock itself works a mechanical linkage you can indeed open the door and the alarm still trigger if the lock switch is damaged or the loom to it.
What I would do is lock the car with the key, wait for the alarm LED to stop flashing quickly. Then open it with the key.
Get in and try and crank it over. If all is ok not to worry. Then go for a drive get back and stand next to the drivers door and press the LOCK button on the key fob. The car should lock and the alarm set.
All should be well now. If you have no fob my guess is the EKA code was entered when you bought the car. If the fuse goes or the battery is taken off or runs out of charge then the immboliser will re-arm and will need the EKA code putting back in via the door lock and key or a working fob needs to be programmed to the car.
Simple but very effective alarm and immobliser system aslong as all parts you have are working and complete can give years of trouble free motoring and safty.

Re: SRS Warning light
Many thanks to both of you for your prompt replies, I tried starting the car this morning but the battery is now flat, checked all leads and they seem to be ok. is it worth getting the battery recharged!!!?
