Rover 214 Central locking and alarm problem

Post by Nudge »

I had a flat battery on my 214, disconnected the battery and charged it as I all ways do and had no problems before until now, connected the battery and now the central locking wont work and the alarm goes off and you can not start the engine. There isn't a fob for this car, key only.
I have had this car for a very long time and never come across this problem before.
hope any one can help

I had this on my old 214 everytime I disconnected the battery.

The only way to stop the alarm was to close the drivers side door then lock and unlock it.

If your central locking isn't working I'd guess that's a fault with the sensor on the door lock (and possibly means what I said above won't work)

Ps dist his car is an spi 1.4 and therefore isn't a 5as system.

Have you done any work on the drivers door recently? A chance you've dislodged the switch on the door lock? That would mean central locking not working (nor telling the car it's locked / unlocked hence alarm it stopping and engine immobilised.)

I haven't done any work at all over the last two years I think it has only done 5 miles just stopped working.

Probably a stupid question - have you checked the fuses?

Another thing to check, is the door switch working (does interior light work when open)
