You may have seen on other threads this week that after being R8-less since 2011, I've finally got my hands on another.
My previous R8s have been three 214 SEi's. This one is a 216 SLi.
I live in West Yorkshire and collected it from all the way down in Clacton-on-Sea today. I got the train down and drove it back and I have to say it performed faultlessly.
Mileage on pickup was 63,085, and it has only covered 20,000 miles in the last 4 years.
There are a couple of faults which I will resolve:
[*]Central locking does not work on 1 rear door (I've fixed this before on one of my SEi's)
[*]Aerial does not go down fully (I had this on one of my SEi's I think - I'll try a drop of oil and WD40 to begin with).
[*]Boot is hard to shut (might need a new latch).
[*]Driver's seat moves backwards and forwards but does not go up and down
If anyone has any suggestions on resolving these I'd be glad to hear.
Bodywork wise there are a few minor rust spots, but it's to be expected for 20 years old (registered Feb 1995).
Improvements to do to improve the look of the car are:
[*]Fit a set of SEi alloy wheels
[*]Paint the spoiler - it looks like a genuine Rover one but it's unpainted black and needs to be silver.
[*]Fit SEi or other (leather) seats.
There is not much documentation with it, but the service book is stamped up to 41,000. There is however a part-exchange invoice where a lady bought it in 2000 and part exchanged her silver Rover 214 GSi, reg G162 PMX - this would have been a very early model I expect. It's now scrapped by the looks of the DVLA web-site (last on the road in 2003).
