Just wondering if anyone knew the actual name of the part, I figured it was meant to be a gasket of some kind but no information seems to exist about what it actually is. Essentially the little rubber connecting piece between the throttle body and the inlet manifold has a small hole in it which has resulted in an observed air leak
I can’t find the part nor a throttle body or an inlet manifold online that has the part attached when separate, only pictures of it present when they’re both together as one.
I am going to assume it’s part of the throttle body itself and is non removable?
Looks like you should be able to unbolt it by first removing the flexible rubber hose connecting to the air filter. What is the tube going in on the top side just before the throttle? Presumably this is the crankcase breather. The underside looks rusty as though there's some moisture or coolant getting through, possibly from the breather tube. Probably best to take off the throttle body and have a look. Assume your coolant is OK? Once off, you could reseal it with some silicone gasket compound.

The tube going off to the side is the breather hose yeah, I believe the breather filter is a wire mesh inside the case itself. As for the coolant, its still disappearing and I never found a leak so I guess its possible its at fault somehow. I'll have a quick look tomorrow. I did have a look inside the throttle body without removing it and theres a little bit of oil but its otherwise relatively clean.
It's at this point where it's worth asking whether its possible to add an external aftermarket crankcase breather that just sticks out the top of the crankcase instead of this weird closed off pipe system they have here. What is stopping me doing that if anything?
The closed breather system on the crankcase prevents crankcase fumes being emitted directly which could make the car a bit smelly. The engine will have been designed to have this system. You can get the same effect of an open system by taking off the oil filler cap on the engine and see how it runs. If the breather is giving off a lot of fumes or moisture it might indicate engine wear or coolant leaks inside the engine allowing coolant to get into the sump (e.g. HGF). I'm not so familiar with this version of the K-series, as mine is an early single point model, but I wondered if there is any coolant circulating near the throttle body which could be leaking. What are the characteristics of the wetness underneath - oily or does it smell/taste of coolant?
