Front lower wishbone replacement issue

Post by alviseven »

Had to replace the OSR lower wishbone after a MOT man complained about it being worn - it had only done 265K miles! Replacement was straightforward and replaced the tie rod as well since it came with the unit - a secondhand one from a 85K (ex Pauls silver car) I used the bushes on the tie rods from the replacement as well but it was an easy bolt on and did the CV boot whilst I was about the area.
Since then the front end on this side bangs or feels like it does over bumps. So much so that on the way to the MOT station I stopped to check the tightness of all the bolts as I was convinced that something was undone completely. Since then I have tightened the lower outer taper pin very slightly and re split pinned it and have had the cover off and checked the ties rod bolts at the front subframe cross member are also tight. The inner wishbone bolt mounting is also tight. Use since has made the car handle better but it still feels far more (too much) fierce to bump over a heavy bump only on the OS. If deliberately hit the same bump with both the NS and then OS (on different passes obviously) the OS bump is definitely more vicious than the left.
can see nothing obvious wrong - nothing loose and tie bar appears to be solid - have taken it around the lanes at good speed and it all behaves but the bigger dips or bumps are far more knocking teeth shattering than before - yes I know the moral is to avoid the bumps but...
Did wonder if I need to change the other side over as well but frightened that I might end up with double trouble but the NS is not worn out at 256K miles either!
