Hello,
I have a 25 1.8 vvc Gti which has developed a screeching noise when warmed up. The noise comes from the inlet manifold area and is constant. To pin point the noise I would say around/ next to the vvc hydraulic unit.
Has anyone experienced this kind of problem ?
Thanks
Paul

I would check this isn't a cambelt issue?
You can trace engine noises by using a large screw driver like a stethoscope
A screech sounds like a vee pulley issue.

Difficult to diagnose without hearing the noise obviously - as the poster above suggests, use a screwdriver as a stethoscope.
You can also remove auxiliary belts in turn to see if you can isolate the ancillary component which is the cause. My immediate thought from your description & location is PAS pump…is the reservoir full? And what’s the condition of the fluid in it? Does the noise change if the steering wheel is turned?
