Not that it's relevant to this particular thread, but when Rimmer's had a sale of R8 MFUs with courtesy delay for about £12 each, I bought a couple. When
I fitted one to my R8 214S, I gained the courtesy delay, which indicates that even on the base level, the loom from the door switches routed to the MFU
rather than direct. Those door switches are pretty basic, just shorting to body earth when the door is open.

Another problem is the interior light, which sometimes works, sometimes doesn't........... It works fine when switched on manually, just not when opening doors, any of them. Then sometimes it will work on the doors.

I would say that both problems are related. The microswitches on the buttons in the A pillar which operate the interior light on and off when you open the doors, also affect the alarm system. The interior light is actually controlled via the Pektron SCU, and it is the A pillar buttons which tell the SCU whether the door is open or closed. If the microswitch in one or other door is faulty or sticking (which does happen on these cars, although it is not a frequent fault), it may intermittently send the wrong signal to the SCU, so the alarm system thinks the door has been opened. If the car has been locked and the alarm system is armed, this will then trigger the alarm to go off.

A similar issue used to afflict the R3 200 and early 25/ZR with the Lucas system too. I had a 1996 216 that developed the same thing; it was simply the switch sticking and occasionally not making the contact properly - changes in temperature then make things expand at different rates, and the contact is lost making the security system think the door has been opened.

You may be able to clean the switch with electrical cleaner, or you may even need to replace the switch.

As far as the wiring diagram for the Pektron equipped cars is concerned, I think you will find them on the genuine factory manual RAVE disc which is available from XPart/Motaclan for a lot less than the cost of a new Haynes: https://motaclan.com/product/rave-rover ... 2_10196_0/

My 1994 216 Cabriolet has developed the same issue in the early morning for the past couple of days; did you manage to fix your problem?

I will check the door contacts shortly and lubricate to see if it helps.

I've temporarily fixed the issue by leaving the car unlocked as I'm not keen on getting up at 3:00 am; I'm sure the neighbours will get peed off if it continues (it's not garaged unfortunately as it wouldn't have been an issue if it was).

Thanks

Stephen
