Rover 214 Stepper Motor
Hello all,
Following diagnosis from two separate mechanics I need a new stepper motor (air intake control valve) for my 1992 Rover 214, but as the car is the early SPI 16v K series engine it is proving very difficult to find one…
I have tried rimmer bros, Xpart, ebay, all the usual places but they only have stepper motors for the more common MPI engines.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, this has been going on for months and I am told they commonly fail with age leading to poor idling, non starting and stalling at junctions - all of the above in my case! Everything else has been checked, it’s had a new ECU, new rotor arm, even been fully serviced and just had a new timing belt so I really want to keep the car on the road. Even if somebody knows where I could get a second hand part from a breakers that would be amazing
Thank you

Re: Rover 214 Stepper Motor
Have you got the OEM part number? If not, PM me your chassis number and I’ll look it up, and have a search through some of the avenues I know.

Re: Rover 214 Stepper Motor
Will say I had the exact same issue trying to find the same stepper motor as they used it on the earlier MPi cars with the alloy inlet.
It's the same one used on the classic rover mini and is also the one that was posted above. Unfortunately as it turns out even the mini guys cant get their hands on it. It got to the point where my alloy inlet has now been swapped out for the plastic one just to circumvent the issue. I do hope you find one though since your problem cant be solved via an inlet exchange. The part number is jzx3062

If any one has a BROKEN one of these they would like to donate, id like to take one to bits and have a look...
Re: Rover 214 Stepper Motor
I have a couple of these available: one on a spare 1992 16v spi 1.4 engine and another from a 1.4 8v spi engine.MattColeman214 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 29, 2025 6:05 am Hello all,

Re: Rover 214 Stepper Motor
Cool. How much for the stepper motor. Mine is the 16v 1.4 k series mpi
In reply to an earlier post with a photo of a stepper motor, yes that looks very familiar
Thanks.

Re: Rover 214 Stepper Motor
Just make sure your car has the alloy inlet manifold rather than the plastic one - plastic inlet cars have a different stepper motor (idle control valve) to the one pictured above.
Re: Rover 214 Stepper Motor
£40 for a known working one, I have 3 of these. I also have a few more either on a TB, in its alloy housing and one bare.
