Where did you source the GKN gaiters, Evil C? Maybe something worth the Club getting a quality product remanufactured as they are used on a lot of different models, and they would be new, not NOS.

Genuine MG ROVER ones are rubbish I needed to change the outer boots on the wife's 25 every year for four years after having MOT advisories. Last time I fitted after-market ones and so far they're ok two years in..!!

The supposedly 'genuine MG Rover' ones have possibly been failing for you because the genuine MG Rover ones which have been supplied by XPart/Motaclan in recent years are I think, aftermarket ones, and not the original factory fit GKN ones ;)

Correct I use JR driveshafts been on 7 years no issues the issue is putting you reg etc doesn't always work these day so measure and compare them .

A story I took notice of at the time was that GKN Driveline was aggressively bought out by a
vulture capitalist outfit a few years ago. They're unlikely to give a toss about maintaining
quality over short-term profit.

Don't necessarily believe all you read. Whilst the takeover by Melrose was controversial at the time, and many loud mouths thought they would simply asset strip and sell on, they actually didn't do too badly. GKN Automotive was then de-merged as part of Dowlais Group in 2023.

I think your condemnation of them as a company who are "unlikely to give a toss about maintaining quality over short-term profit" is misplaced.
