Drop Link bolt material

Post by Plodder »

I’m looking to replace the drop link bolts on my 91 416 as the heads are corroded and could do with changing.
They are no longer a stocked item at Rimmers so I need to go to a bolt supplier.
The bolts are M10 thread 50mm and 60mm long , each is threaded for half the length.

Does anyone know whats a recommended steel grade for suspension bolts?
Googling seems to indicate grade 8 for imperial bolts and grade 10.8 for metric bolts.

II think there’s a suspension expert in our midst :laughing2

If they're part numbers RYG101010 and RYG10038 - DMGRS have them in stock.

Thanks SteveB for the info.
The info is a bit confusing on the DMGRS website as it says the RYG101010 can be used as an alternative to the RYG10038.
But RYG101010 is 10mm shorter than
RYG10038.
I'll have to see whether the shorter bolt will still work as a replacement in this application by measuring the amount of thread poking through the end of the nut.
Rimmers do have 2 off of the longer bolts ,RYG10038 , but not RYG101010. I’m a bit loathed to buying them from all different sources as the P&P will add up ,particularly Rimmers.
Thanks again though for the info.

You need to be careful with Rimmer's that they don't substitute incorrect items, especially bolts!
I would talk to DMGRS

Hi Plodder, you're very welcome - and I know what you mean about postage costs! As Teddy Bear suggests, it'd be worth getting in touch with DMGRS to check. In case you hadn't seen them, they've got the nuts as well - EFP3325.

Your local bolts and fasteners place would also be a good place to go or Ebay 8.8 Flange headed bolts .
