Refitting Door Cards Advice

Post by Plodder »

I’m trying to refit the rear door card on my 91 416. I’m struggling to get the return flange on the top of the door card over the edge of the inner skin of the rear door card. I can get one end on and sometimes both ends but try as I might I can’t get the whole thing to seat properly along the entire length

I have wondered if filing a small chamfer on the edge of the door card might aid fitting but wonder if this is the path to a disintegrating door card

Does anyone have any tricks or tips to aid fitting please. Thanks in advance.

Managed to resolve this this morning with a fresh pair of eyes.
Straightened the inner door skin edge a bit and used the dremel to put a small chamfer on the returned top edge of the door card. Also smeared a bit of vaseline on the inside of the inner door skin to reduce the friction between the door skin and the door card. Assembled with no problem at all. Clearly I was fighting an interference fit between the door card edge and the inner door skin edge. All good now apart a spare screw :S
