The time has come to sort out a few niggles with my pride and joy. Since owning the coupe, 5 years now, I've put up with the steering wheel cross-bar not being horizontal when the road wheels point straight ahead.
The Virgo in me tells me that this needs to be addressed. Is there a solution, or is it just one of those things best left alone?
218 coupe vvc - steering wheel alignment
There are two ways to do this. If the car drives straight when you take your hands off the wheel and the steering wheel is only a little off centre then you can undo the steering wheel remove it and replace it in the straight position (not whilst driving of course!). This is easy in the non air-bag models as you simply prize out the horn button and you can see the nut that holds the steering wheel on. In airbag models you have to remove this first I think to get at the nut.
The other way to do it is to get the cars tracking adjusted at a garage. Tell them you want the wheel to be set straight and they should be able to adjust it from underneath the car by adjusting the steering arms.
