i have a rover 220sli that has a slight oil leak but it also leaves this sandy coloured stuff
the last rover i owned was a 216 gsi it had oil leak so i got the head gasket replaced and started to burn oil at 1 litre per week!
i dont want the same to happen to this car, what should i do?

Where is the oil leak from?
If it is from the front corner of the block near the gearbox then this is common and regarded as "normal".

yeah its from around there

Only thing you can do is to change the headgasket.
Not sure what the sandy coloured stuff is. Are you sure it isn't rusty coolant?

I wonder if the sandy coloured stuf is rust dust. I've noticed the same where there is a film of oil on the gearbox and engine block on our 214. I think may come from rust on the exhaust manifold which is blown back. Couldn't see anything else in the engine bay that would produce it.
