Hi all...Rover 216 Cabriolet with an electric hood that was working fine before Christmas but now doesn't seem to want to open. Can hear motor working fine when trying to close but silence on trying to open. Have tried shorting without switchgear and exactly the same thing happens...all fuses ok so don't know what to check next? Any suggestions very welcome...

You have two relays in the boot next to the motor. One is for up-I bet you can guess what the other one is for......

Try swapping them and see if your symptom is reversed.....

does it try too open,if so may need a gentle push.check your fluid.

It doesn't try to open at all...no sound from the motor at all but it does work if trying to close...I will check those other relays that I didn't know about

and post the happenings...thanks guys...

Thanks to John W...one of the relays has packed up and your diagnosis was spot on...all I have to do now is find another working one? Any offers?

Try a normal spares shop- I don't think they are a particularly unusual type.
