I have a J plate 52k mile 216sli auto and all is good with her apart from the judder which has started in the past few week. And this only really happens at 40mph an mainly when i have taken my foot off the gas or when i am going down hill and whilst it is juddering the rev counter is also going up and down, have taken her out of gear and it stops an all is smooth any help would me most welcome as i have no desire to get rid of this other wise cracking car.

The 1.6 honda engine had a fairly common fault with the distributor if I remember right. However this problem would occur all the time rather than just at a certain speed. First thing would be to check all the electrical connections and the oil level in the gearbox just for good measure. I'd spend an afternoon unplugging things, squirting with WD40 and then plugging them back in just to make sure it isn't a connection problem somewhere.

Also check all the small vacuum hoses that go to the inlet manifold from the airbox for cracks or leaks.
