Lucas dizzy cap/rotor arm - counterfeit?
Just bought a new Lucas dizzy cap and rotor arm from eBay for my 416... now, since buying this I've had plenty of comments from people saying that Lucas parts are actually rubbish, but that's not the point of my post (I kinda assumed they'd be better than cheap pattern parts and half the cost of increasingly hard to source OEM/X-Part parts), however comparing my old cap with the new one I'm not entirely convinced I've been sold geniune. The old cap has "Lucas Made in UK" stamped on the outside, and the Lucas logo on the inside, whereas the replacement has neither (and looks to be made of cheaper looking, slightly shinier black plastic). I've seen conflicting posts online saying that there are loads of counterfeit Lucas parts on the web sold in genuine looking green Lucas boxes, and also posts saying that Lucas don't actually make parts anymore and just licensed the name to other manufacturers. I queried the situation with the seller who was quite incensed at my accusation and insists he is a "registered supplier of Lucas parts". I'd value your input... I've attached an image of my old cap (left) and replacement (right) with this post... Neither the old or the new rotor arm have anything stamped on them so it's not really fair to compare them (although the overall design is marginally different).

Nope - mine's a Rover K series. Engine code: 16K4FK88
As an update to this, I spoke to a helpful man at Lucas who has slightly allayed my fears and confirmed that not all parts are embossed these days (and kinda alluded to the fact that they're all more or less "made under license" parts these days without actually saying as much). He took some details of the parts from me and said he'd investigate and come back to me. Not heard anything back yet, but we'll see. I'll probably just end up fitting them anyway to be honest, and keep the old rotor arm in the glovebox for when the replacement inevitably fails prematurely...!

Re: Lucas dizzy cap/rotor arm - counterfeit?
Its well known that the older parts were better made.
New ones are rubbish by comparison and it isn't at all unusual to get a brand new duff one as they simply aren't built as they used to be.
They are all made from cheapo materials over in china these days so if you have a good one, keep hold of it as a spare!

Re: Lucas dizzy cap/rotor arm - counterfeit?
I know this is an old thread but Lucas pulled out of the car parts business ageas ago when TRW took them over. Thats why Rover had to update the 25/45 to use the Pektron SCU unit as TRW also pulled the 5AS unit and 10AS from production.
I tend not to use Lucas stuff these days as its mostly far eastern made stuff at a massive mark up.
