hi i was wondering if anyone has got the timing settings for a 414 16v engine.the car is running fine but when i go up hills i have to drop down to 2nd or 1st gear.so i think it might be my timing *laughs*
Hmm sounds odd. I can't remember how to check the cam timing on the K series but the haynes manual will reveal all.
The loud ticking could be a couple of things
-Stuck tappet - This usually quietens down as the engine gets warmer
-Leaking inlet manifold gasket - With the engine at idle try squirting WD40 or similar around the joint of the manifold and the cylinder head. If the engine note changes you have a leak and this will seriously upset the performance.
-Arcing HT lead. This can be from a faulty plug, or a faulty lead (assuming it has HT leads rather than coilpacks). If you view the engine in the dark you can sometimes see where it is a sparking.
Does the engine run and rev smoothly and normally (have you compared it to anyone elses car?).
