Modification and Insurance

Post by whiskeyonesix »

Hi Folks,

I have a question.... if you get a car and it has say, a rear spoiler listed as an "optional-extra" (but not actually fitted onto the car....) and then you later retrofit said spoiler, would this count as a modification?

Also....... What were listed as "optional-extras" on 1995-1996 214i last-off-the-line R8s?

In theory yes. It is normally to the best of your knowledge though and I bet most people dont know what was optional or standard on their car.

I will dig out a brochure later to find out the optional extras.

Cheers :)

Any chance you can scan it and stick it on the site? Or is it there already and i`ve not seen it. My eyes don`t work properly today anyway - just done 9 hours overtime today, and I think im starting to hallucinate!

Oh yes! Were mudflaps options aswell? And power-steering?

I`ll be quiet now.

Tom.

I can't find a 94-95 brochure, only a 96 one :(

I have 93 brochure though and it lists

214Si as having the following options

Alloy wheels - 5 spokes
Remote door/tail locking
R750 or R950/6 Disc Autochanger radio
Electric Sunroof
Black, Metallic or Pearlescent paint

Chris Knott the reccomended club insurers are good for modified.

They give discounts for club members too. Details are in the members section on the website.

I don't know if I'm a bit late on this one but I found Adrian Flux very good - and considerably cheaper (by hundreds of pounds) than Chris Knott

Yes but that is illegal.

If caught or investigated after an accident, you'd be in it up to your neck, and classed as having no insurance. Worse than that it could be seen as fraud which carries an even higher penalty (jail time). Once that is on your record you can forget about having affordable insurance for many many years.

Mods must be declared otherwise the insurance is invalid
You can't insure your gran as the main driver if she isn't, that is called fronting and is also illegal.

You are the kind of driver that gives yound drivers a bad name.

hahaha i do actually know this and yes i suppose i could be seen as a bit of a lady bits.. but i see it as.. if ur vehicles gonna be investigated... u'll have had to have a pretty serious crash... probably resulting in urself being too rude to say or having killed urself or someone... so insurance details would be the lest of my worrys.
