They are the 406 brembos yes. As for the rest if the kit, I don't at the moment but when I have saved up enough pennies I'll be purchasing the kit I need from an old group buy they had over on another forum. That is u less you know where I can get the rest if the kit cheaper.

Another day and another update.

I made a start on the removing of the valves and stem seals thanks to Andy coming round to gimme a hand to start me off so I knew what I was doing. And also from Ross who provided the valve compressor yesterday so that I could get started.

Andy started off showing me what to do Image
1st valve being removed after the colletts had been removed along with the cap and spring from the other side.

The first valve out of the head the first job was to clean the face of the piston and the main stem as well as with me doing the exhaust ports first these would be the hardest to get clean.
I have no pictures of the before as I was reminded by Andy to get the pics taken so to show off on here so for the 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th valve there are no before and after pics of the valves.

Grinding paste applied to the valve edge and then started the lapping process.
Image

And my go at doing the grinding
Image

After 3 applications of course and then 3 of the fine the first one was ready so I numbered it accordingly.

And then to do the same with the 3 others I've managed to do so far now that my arms feel like they are dropping off.

2nd valve out and grinding commenced.
Image

2nd valve completed and laid alongside the first.
Image

3rd valve out and things are going swimmingly
Image

And grinding in progress on valve 3
Image

And valve 4 out and the last for a couple of hours to let my arms recover.
Image

The 4 colletts and springs boxed safely away so as to not get lost.

Just in case anyone asks and they haven't seen my other thread on the matter I am intending on changing the valve stem seals but due to them not looking like the right ones in the kit and I am investigating this issue as we speak. It appears the ones in the kit are shallower than the ones installed in the head already and I don't want to fit the new ones just in case they are the wrong ones.

Today was the end of the cleaning of the exhaust ports and not too soon as I was aching like hell yesterday after doing the first 4.

Anyway I got on with the removal of the last 4 after the kids were at school.

Picture from around 11am when I got round to clamping up the last exhaust valve so that the colletts could be removed.

And from the otherside.

Image

And after the last valve had been removed from the exhaust side.

Image

And a look up. A similar view to looking through one of my earsand being able to see all the way through.

Image

Once that was done it was time for rest and just in time for lunch and a rest.

That was pretty much it until Andy arrived with his special valve stem seal removal tool for me to borrow. He removed the first one to show me how much of a pain in the chuff it would be without the modified tool.

As per my other thread on the sitation you can clearly see the difference between from left to right. The one from BGA supposedly for my car. The one in the middle actually from my car. And the one on the right which is one of the ones that Andy brought with him to compare against the other two to see if they would do.

Image

I had the intention of getting started with the other side of valves tonight but I've an early start in the morning as off to Bristol for work again so I'll give it a break for today and get some more done tomorrow when I get back.

As the title suggests the end of the lapping in the valves is racing to a finish. I got 10,11,12 and 13 done tonight from getting in from work meaning that I've only got the last three to do now in which I'll get them sorted tomorrow.

As mentioned on my other thread I have managed to locate the correct valve stem seals to replace the ones in the head and after the valves are finished being seated I'll remove the seals and replace them with the new ones.

A great mornings work sees the head being completed being prepared for the rebuild.

The last 3 valves were completed just after getting back in from picking the missus us from work at 8 this morning and work started on the car at 8.30.

I then set about removing the old 16 valve stem seals from the engine using Andy's modified pliers

Here we have the first set of seals out of the head.

And a picture of all the seals sat on storage shelf.
Image

Now that they were out it was time to install the new ones.
Image

And here they start going in.
Image

After the seals went in smoothly enough I thought I'd get the valves back in as my final work for the day (with a little encouragement from Andy) And so I set about installing the valves and the valve springs/cover and then finally the colettes of which were a total pain in the backside to fit even with the vaseline. I feel as if I could have done with 2 pairs of hands but I managed with just the 1.

And then before I knew they were all done and back in the head.

Next step is the refitting of the cams and carriers but for today I'm chuffed with the work done today and so I'll leave it to tomorrow.

I went back to the shop I ordered the BGA headgasket kit from. I had to pay for the set he got but he had a word with a few contacts and managed to come up with a set. I've also ordered from another source another set as I didn't realise the shop I eventually got them from had sourced some. I guess another set are always handy just in case I need to do it again in the future and with them being hard to get hold of it can't hurt to have another set about.

Time is running out to get the car back on the road for the trip to Longbridge and so more work was carried out this evening on the head namely the tappets, cam carriers, cams re-installed as well as the bottom half of the inlet manifold.

First of all I thought I'd picked up all the tools I'd need for Andy to pop down to and show me the way to go and what to do. To be honest Andy has been a godsend in the rebuilding so far.

We started off inspecting the head and I went over it lightly with some wet and dry to just give the head a quick clean considering it had been moved back and forth in the process of sorting the valve seating and reinstalling of the valves.

Then it was onto refitting the tappets. Andy took one of the tappets apart to show how it came apart and what the results were after the cleaning process was carried out.

It was decided that they looked in good condition and seeing as the head gasket hadn't mayo'd up that we would just leave them as is to save a little time.

Next on the agenda was the fitting of the cams and seals and then the beading of the gasket sealant. As you can see below the bottom one had already been done before I'd taken the picture.

Cam carriers torqued down it was time to move onto the other set of cams and carriers.

There aren't really many more pics due to my phone being low on charge and me getting excited about fitting the cam covers and whilst it was off the car we thought it best to install the bottom half of the inlet manifold and gasket so as to not struggle trying to get to the inaccessible bolts when the head was in place.

All I can say is that a lot of sanding was required to get rid of the last remnants of the old inlet manifold gasket. Once removed the inlet was secured into place using the 2 13mm nuts and then the rest of the 10mm bolts.

Here are a few pics of the inlet manifold in place along with the cam covers. Yet to be cleaned but will be once the cam covers have been torqued down to the right settings (mainly because I forgot the 8mm socket from where the rest of the car is located). We finger tightened the bolts as best we could and I'll sort them out torque wise tomorrow when I go get some more tools from my fathers address where the rest of the parts are located.

And that's it for now. Next job installing the head back on the car.
