Nice one Kain so glad to held it together and got it repaired. Did you find out what caused it to leak the second time round?

So i take it you won't be selling all the bits now :) also we may see you at POL?

I can only think that the leak the 2nd time around was because of the oil restrictor being in place. Something I didn't realise or know what to look for until Craig sent me a link that had a pic of what I had to look for.

When I took the old/new multi layered gasket off it was ruined so I replaced it with a standard single layer gasket and then I liberally went round the gasket where the orange rubber parts were and doubled it up with gasket sealant and that happens to have done the job.

As for the bits I have for sale the T series turbo head is still for sale as are the Brembo calipers.

As for POL yeah I wasn't going to commit myself until I knew I had the GTi confirmed as running and back on the road.

I've still got to get permission from the Mrs but I should be 99.9% guarenteed on going now.

All of the bits are back on the car as they should be apart from the bits in the wanted section I need.

I checked the coolant this morning and it had dropped whilst the car was sat on the incline of the drive so I topped it up and it's holding well all day.

I also checked the oil this morning as well and with it being new it was hard to see where the oil mark was upto. I had it showing just above the minimum mark even though we put 4 litres in yesterday. I added a tiny bit more to bring it up to midway point and again so far so good.

Another bit of good news today is that I found the bottom cover or what was left of it after it had broke and whilst I was in the process of trying to put it back on tonight Andy popped over and seeing as I was just about done putting things back together he asked if there was anything else that could be done. I remembered that the passenger side door was unable to unlock the door from the outside after my attempt to open the door failed when I last taxed the car before it was taken off the road. Basically a key got stuck in the door and I had to remove the lock so that the key could be removed. Needless to say when I put the car back together I must have forgotten to do something and ever since I could only open the door from the inside.

Andy being here was a perfect opportunity to get this working whilst I finished putting everything else back together.

After a bit of messing around the passenger side door handle now opens the car from the outside as well as inside.

Once the glow from his heavenly presence had faded I said I'd had a problem with the left indicator flashing fast. I thought it was a faulty bulb. He said it was a faulty wire. He was right and within 5 minutes it was fixed and working again.

I've also put the rear number plate back on the car as well to finish off the day.

I've got a little nightmare I should have put on last night. This car really likes to take me to the highs and lows anyway the update. Remember this was typed last night.

And so the chapter of the Gti continues.

Tonight's episode starts off normal as I set off with the wife and young daughter to drop the Mrs off at work. I get just outside of Newton Bewley and I notice that the radio has just stopped working for some reason. I assume it is a slight electrical blip that I'd sort when I get home but noooo, the car wanted to just give me grief tonight.

Needless to say as I'm approx 200 yds from the small hamlet I notice my headlights are very dim and that the dashboard lights are none existent.... I'm now thinking shite the Mrs is going to go spare.

I managed to get it into the entrance to someone's home running parallel with the main road and I pop the bonnet. Checking everything over belt intact check. Alternator still connected check. Battery connected check.

I know that the positive terminal was a little loose but it was working and I planned on replacing it soon anyway.

By this time the I can see steam coming from the Mrs. ears so I check the terminals and then the engine dies leaving me on a main A road with a young child in the car and my wife needing to get to work.

First call was to my parents to come and get Donna to work and if possible take the little one leaving me to try and get something sorted.
I then rang trusty Andy who had just got in from work and he offered to pop down and was there within 10 minutes.

After a trial of jump starting the car fired back to life but with the lights needing to be on it wouldn't be running for long. I tried to get the car home with Andy following me to be safe and I made it 10 inches. At which point I wasn't impressed with the car.

I then remembered I have AA cover with the car insurance so it was time to give them a call. This was 20.10 and after a boring safety announcement I got through to some old bloke who then went back through the same boring safety announcement and then asked the usual questions.

The AA relay chap turned up just after 9 which was probably the fastest I've ever experienced the AA get to a breakdown I'd been in the car (not all mine I may add). He ran some tests and came to the conclusion that obviously the battery was broke and needed replaced but also that the alternator when connected to the to the wiring was no showing the battery light on the dash when the ignition was switched on. And also that the battery wasn't charging.

So that leaves me again off road for the next few days.

I've found the day I bought it but I can't find the receipt for it so I can see me having to buy a new one if they won't accept that there is a fault with it 8 months after buying it.

I am so fed up about this damn car now if it isn't one thing it's another.

I'll update you on what happens tomorrow.

Now for this mornings update.

It's alive (in the stirring sounds of a mad scientist)

Thus morning went down to the place I got the old alternator from and they changed it for a new one as they said the back end bearings had gone and that was the fault.

I have literally just finished putting her back together scrapped knuckles n all.

Sounds sweet. Listen for yourself.

Sorry for the crazy frog at the end

Ok last chance to redeem the engine.

I've changed plugs, leads, dizzy rotor, checked all connections to the battery are fastened correctly and checked that the oil and filter changed and coolant levels are right.

Now let's see if it's fixed the jerky running. If it hasn't I'm selling the car and getting a brm.
