Does anybody know what the best way to refurb this ?

Mine's looking a bit shabby but I have managed to obtain a spare to play with on ebay.

get it powder coated. about £25 to £35 i imagine. if you want to do the work yourself though you can get the crackle finish spray cans

Am i right in saying the Honda engines have the embossed writing and fins in a polished finish? (as the 1.4 SPI's do)

I guess the solution would be a through clean, sand and key. Then spray the whole cover (in heat resistant paint) and then sand down and polish the fins / writing.

The wonders of t'internet !

I don't know why I didn't do that before ..... :slapme

I'd like to keep the black/silver contrast but which is likely to get the best definition/separation - masking and peeling off while still wet or when dry or spraying the whole lot and sanding/polishing afterwards ?

I'm thinking the first one.

Rub some Vaseline on the raised bits, spray the rocker cover then wipe the Vaseline off, works a treat.

I had mine powder coated and then I just sanded off the paint on the lettering, easy :) but it's not a crackle finish though.

Been at the spare today and this is what it looked like just before painting

Spraying was straight forward and its been drying since with some nice crackling appearing. It should hopefully be ready tomorrow :)

Right, the first one is finished.....

and the second is in prep.

After that I'll have a spare cam cover, if anybody else is interested in doing the same.

Think you did ! :blushing

Second one done.

Think it's slightly better than the first :)

So now there's a cam cover going spare - anybody interested ?

Otherwise it'll go back on ebay. Just have to find out if I've got enough interest, and paint, to sort it first....
