I allways had a weak spot for Rover Cabrio Automatics so I was happy to find one last week.
A good reason to join the 200&400 club.
There are quite a few around here with Honda power units but I was after a Dutch one with K-series and CVT.
Now I have found out that only two Cabrio CVT's have been imported via the official routes of the Rover organisation so I'm happy to have one of them.
I bought it from the first lady owner who mainly used it in France during summer times.
It's a 1998 Std. SE spec. BR-green, 90th miles.
My other hobby cars are Maestro's and Mini's.
Cheers!

We have a R Tourer with Honda manual power unit in the family as well.
Proper Jap. design and relaiable stuff.
But I go for one of the last Rover engines with the Dutch designed CVT !

As one of the many Rover engineers who on this project for 3 years, both in the UK and in Japan, I think it's fair to say we learnt a lot from each other :)

Thats good work to track down one of only 2 such cars in your country, after all these years it could have easily been the case both were already gone!

I personally think the k series is a fantastic engine with ok a known weakness that can be solved these days and in any case need not be a problem with proper care, mainainance and attention. I say that having had my 214 for 18 years now and never having had any engine problems at all in all that time.

Welkom landgenoot!

I test-drove a 220GSi about a year ago but I still prefer the Honda 1.6-engined ones. :) Even though these are a bit slower..

Interesting to hear, was you based in Gaydon? In the Netherlands the Rover-Honda years were the best. Sales was good and warranty bills low.

The K-series design was brilliant but in my opinion was spoiled by the decision to increase the capacity with the "damp" liners in the same casting.
The original 1.1 and 1.4 wet liner versions had hardly any problems.

It was pure luck that I found this car on the internet.
Because I have access to the MGR-NL CoC archive I started counting and found only two of these CVT Cabrio's. I know the VIN of the other one but our Dutch RDW authorities are not allowed to let me know the registration number so I don't know the owner or whether it still exists.
