Mechanically a 216 & a 416 are identical baring a slightly longer rear exhaust and possibly different rear springs.

Though I did think that the 416 Tourer came with the SOHC engine, as did the 216GTi 3 door hatch. whereas the 216 GTi 5door, the 216 GTi Twin Cam 3 door hatches and the 416 GTi 4 door had the DOHC engine. All of them are 16 valve engines.

It's only in body/trim and associated electrics where they differ.
I like Twin Cams, Single Cams, Turbos and 5-cam VVCs :cool

No my car is a jap import and my 216 gti has a the double overhead cam as well as my mates tourer the only dif is I have half leather and his tourer has full leather recaros. Another friend has a 416 tourer from Singapore 1600 single cam cloth interior ordinary seats, The only R8 rover to come to Nz was a 216 sli 5 door basic spec no sunroof no aircon and wheeltrims but two tone paint, and they were expensive $38,000 hence most R8s were imported 2nd hand from Japan or Singapore

In some markets (like Italy) the Tourer was also sold in 416GSi spec - having the Honda DOHC engine and the dark grey half leather (optional full leather) interior of the UK market 420GSi Tourer.

So if both have the Honda DOHC engine, the differences will be rather small - except for possibly different spring rates, you should be able to spot all other differences relatively easy.

FWIW I've had two Tourers and they've both had K16 DOHC engines.
