It pays to get there early! I shall remember that and endeavour to act upon it next year. :sad As I spent 50 minutes in a queue that started about a mile up the A38 :o

That was all forgotten about though once onto the field. We made a good show of car's and were well advertised with the banner and the flag. Thanks to GTi John for putting in such a massive effort editing and distributing the newsletter at the same time as acting as focal point for the club pitch.

John was looked upon favourably by the gods of chance after all his hard work and earned a small reward in the shape of a prize won from the Coupe's Club Raffle!

I hope that everybody else enjoyed the day as much as I did :D

Interesting that number of Coupes roughly equal the other types combined. I doubt they were built in that proportion.
You can't knock owners' enthusiasm, but sometimes I miss the unexceptional!

I tried to encourage those that were not members to still park with us in the hope that we may encourage one or two to join but to be fair some of them were in other clubs and parked with them.

It was an interesting mix of cars. The coupes certainly outdid the rest of us but they had some very nicely presented cars. The coupes and cabs will always be more sought after simply because they are a bit different. To some of us the 5dr will always be the original and best, especially in K16 SPi form (but then I would say that!) It was good to see three tourers and a couple of 400 saloons, after being so poorly represented at Gaydon last year. There was a stunning 420GSi in BRG parked opposite us. I didn't see the owner so not sure if they are a member but it was a very nice car.

All in all, a great day!

A 420 GSi 'Executive', no less. I don't think they were available for long, as the 'Sport' trim seemed to be more popular and eventually became the mainstream GSi.

We need to track the owner of that one down if we are granted NEC space this year :)

Can't remember which way round it is but... I think that if you've bought a car, you can send a message to its previous owner through the DVLA... maybe free of charge? Not done any research on this. Maybe you can use this service to send a quick "get in touch" message to the owner?

Here you go:

https://www.gov.uk/request-information-from-dvla

Form V888 apparently. And it costs £2.50 :glare

I assume this can be paid for as a legitimate club expense :angel

Just a note on the cars... I've no idea who I talked to on the day apart from John and "Nudge." There was a 220GTi NASP parked next to me for a while - J reg. with an M series engine and 60K on the clock. Who was driving that? And the 420 next to Jeremy's... whose was that?
