I've tried lots of differant ones most are reasonable, it depends on the colour of the car dark colours show more swirl marks then lighter ones, I find auto glym is no good on dark cars, very good on silver and white. but the main thing is not to polish in hot sunny weather and when you polish just use enough to cover the paint work. If you put it on to thick loads of dust and a waste of polish. To get a really good finish try maguires three steps I did

My partner an i own a small valeting company and we tend to use Autoglym polishes for real detailed polishing then after that we use a product called Liquid Gold which is streak free. It is however quite expensive. A cheaper way to do is it to buy turtle wax Demon Shine, once you have washed your car mix the demon shine with cold water and poor over the panels, then either chammy off or go for a quick drive (about 20mins) this then air dries the polish without any streaks.
For the engine bay i dont think that you can beat steam cleaning after spraying with a good degreaser. we use a wallpaper steamer withouth the wall attachment and it works fantasticly.
Hope this helps.
