Hi,
I used to have a 214 Sli L Reg before my current 218 SLD Turrbo.
The problem you have sounds familiar. I would suggest taking off the distributer cap and drying it out insite - even a small amount of condensation will cause problem and the misfiring due to unburnt fuel. Worst case will be total loss of power and needed the AA to come out when you're parked in tescos!!! (Before I learned how to sort it). If it does the trick then I suggest using water repelling oil - such as Duckams. Spray around the outside of the area and it will help to prevent moisture getting in. The worst thing you can do is park on grass as the morning dew will rise and go straight in to the engine.
Secondly you could investigate the stepper motor.
Cheers

I had a problem starting my 218SLD turbo this AM. A work colleague suggested that it may benefit from a new set of coils (I mean glow-plugs here!) Is this feasible? Or could it be something else? It is due in for an oil change on Monday as well - as it hasn't been changed for a while. Could old oil hinder morning start up as well?rosspti wrote: I used to have a 214 Sli L Reg before my current 218 SLD Turrbo.

It has to be the glow-plugs because I have just found out that with mine been a diesel it doesn't have HT Leads! *laughs*theviper wrote:It was the HT Leads that was the problem with mine i changed them and the car the fine now :-)
