Chris Knott - Club Insurers

Post by Smithy »

I already had my 220 GTi Turbo insured with Chris Knott this year for a very good price - fully comp all mods declared and agreed valuation.

Our Rover 600 came up for renewal this month so I thought I would give Chris Knott a try and they beat the other quotes I had hands down. So that makes me happy :)

Have any other members had a really good quote from them yet?

They wouldn't even give me a quote because of my age :sad

Went to a company who specialise in vauxhalls (namely the Carlton, and particially the Lotus). Managed to get away from admiral, who although cheap, are still pissing me around with my claim nearly a year on :cursing

Making the jump to trade insurance in the new year though :)

Rovertorque use Chris Knott as their recommended insurers as well and I had my 1.6 Tomcat insured with them until June '07. When the renewal came in at a whopping £850 :scared I nearly had a heart attack, so I decided to shop around and eventually got a quote a whole £500 cheaper.

Admitedly I did limit the mileage but I did also give Chris Knott the opportunity to match the price but they couldn't even get close.

Don't get me wrong, their service is very good but £500 is £500!!!

I was quoted £430 for my 220 GTi with allllllllll the mods declared (full combat kit, M3 wing mirrors, bonnet vent, TWS alloys, K&N induction kit, debadged, Magnex cat back exaust and a brand new windscreen, most of you know the story of that). I asked if that included my Rover 200 and 400 Owners Club discount? Nope, with the club discount they took it down to £405. I asked if i could have the breakdown service too? They said they dont do that anymore and asked what the best quote i had was with breakdown cover? I told them that it was from performance direct and they quoted me £440ish. They said, "ok" we can knock the preimium down some more. Anyway, i ended up with a quote for £389ish. Premiums are always going up cus of the arsey teenagers driving 1.1 and 1.2 corsas and ending up crashing them. I think that being a member of the club proved that i wasnt about to start racing my car and wrapping it around a tree like the majority of young lads.

Its the cheapest quote ive had. Mind you i havent insured it as im saving for a respray.

I should also point out that this quote was for 3rd patry fire and theft over monthly payments. The quote i got for a 1 off payment was something silly like £330ish. The prices arent acurate cus its been a month or two since i got the quote but i have the quote number and the dude i spoke tos name.

Chriss Knott out quoted everyone out there. They told me that if i found it cheaper they would beat it, they would beat any quote i found cheaper.

No point really in considering fully comp until your 21, unless your one of these spoilt sh*ts that get mummy and daddy to put you through your lessons and provide you with a car and ins.

Id also never consider buying anything on credit, let alown ins.....based on your quotes thats 15% more.

Being in a good profession and living in a reasonable area certainly helps, but do your research. I tryed several qoutes with different family members, (they don't have to be under the same roof, although same surname helps) I found my mum and uncle were cheaper than my mum and dad, so I asked tham and put them on for my first ever policy.......the fact that they're not allowed withing 30ft of my cars has nothing to do with it....and ins don't specify!!!!
Estimated mileage??
The key word is estimated. Always, always underestimate. For a youngster doing those two alown will knock off a couple of hundred.

My final pease of advise for a first time male, would be to purchase your car around your insurance....At the age of 17 I was driving around in a 2.2 Honda accord with ins group 14, and the policy cost me £1120 :o
Mates in 1.1 fiestas were paying £1500 :tt2

I wanted something big, so sat online and quotes for big cars, (cant stand little cars) like mondeo/vectra V6s etc. They're also far, far cheaper to buy, and you get far more for your money (toys, comfort, power......Leather). Most were £2k+, but I stuck at it and found the Accord to be the cheapest.....so I got it :D

[I had had my license for the best part of a year mind as I passed asap, and didn't get a car till I decided upon not going to uni, so had part of that fund that id spent my life saving for to spend :cool]

When my renewal came up I wan't a member of the club, I was a member of Rovertorque, who also use Chris Knott as their recommended insurers.

Maybe this club is getting a better deal??? Who knows....

I always shop around at renewal time so I will give them another go.

What I ended up with for my £350 was:

Fully Comp, agreed value, with 5000 miles per year limit (as it's a second car this is not a problem).

The car is kept overnight in a locked & alarmed garage, I'm a 46 year old IT Support Manager with 5 years accident free and no current points on my licence. These things do help a bit. Probably the only advantage to getting old. :D :D

The joys of being in your 40s - the tax on our 216 cabrio and 820 cost more than the insurance!

I will say watch Chris Knott with agreed value. They are the club approved insurers for another club I'm in. One of our members had a claim (car hit while parked in supermarket carpark). The agreed value was iirc £2000, the assesor decided to value it at around £300. Eventually he managed to settle but at no where near the value of the car, and this was on a ltd edition homologation special, one of only around 10 left in the country! A similar car has recently sold for £5000.
