I bought a 1993 L plated 216 cabby in polynesian turquoise about 10 years ago. It belonged to a neighbour and I always admired it standing in our street. I used a van for my work and for private transport as well at the time but then I gave up the work requiring a van. That occurred at about the same time that the neighbour was selling the car and the rest is history as they say.
Anyway, the car was in great condition and the missus and I really enjoyed the car especially with the roof down in the nice weather. It had the excellent honda DOHC engine which was sprightly, quite economical and trouble free whilst we had it. One thing I had not experienced before on a vehicle was how excellent the steering was. We had it for about 4 years then sadly the cam belt came off after the bearing in the tensioner collapsed.
After our experience with the L plate cabby I bought the one I have now, please see my sig. Obviously, the big difference with the one I have now is it came with the Rover engine which is not as good as the Honda in my humble opinion. Never the less it was and still is in excellent condition, with to date, just shy of 72k genuine miles on the clock. It is not a hobby car and I do need transport so my challenge now is finding parts for it. That is the only reason I would probably not consider buying another. However, my missus and I like the car so much we would like to keep it on the road as long as possible.
If you got this far thanks for your time to read my story of how I became a cabby 216 fan
