Re: Starter ptoblems

Post by celica1600gt »

Hi Beverley
Has this car had a fuel filter on it recently , i have just gone through a non starting problem < I own the blue 216GSi with fuel pump, look at my string, my id celica1600gt, problems but some of the symptons are similar to the ones you describe, just before the pump went seem very similar, it would spin and not fire , but then start up ok. If the full filter is a bit old and not putting full pressure on the rail, you would get some of the symptons you describe.
just a thought , i went through the fuel filter relay and soldered it up but that didn't help. The pump was changed and i finally sorted the problem , but some of the symptons were fuel related.
Hope this helps
Cheers Malcolm.

Hi Malcolm
The garage I took it to did recommend changing the fuel filter and my son has ordered the wrong one so I will re-order one. The cars only done 34,000 and I have all the paperwork showings e all its history including replacement parts and there's no sign of it having a new fuel filter so h fingers crossed that will sort it. Thanks for your help regards Beverley

I'll do my best only had it 3 months and it's really testing me being a lady driver I don't want the worry that it won't start but I'm not giving up on it yet my son will be busy fitting the new parts suggested by other members and hopefully that will sort it. Thanks for your support!

I'm afraid not it's had a new fuel filter, a distributor cap and ht leads I still need a new rotor arm (ordered wrong one) as suggested in the forum but the problem still exists. Prime example I went for petrol 5 mins away from where I live turned the engine off put the petrol in and it refused to start I was so glad my husband was with me as he hadn't witnessed it before it was extremely frustrating and embarrassing so any more suggestions would be appreciated!

Hi Beverley, if you ordered the rotor arm from the link I supplied previously this should be the correct one. It looks different, as the original is a circular disc, the replacement one omits the 2 arcs of thin plastic between the contact arm and (what I assume is) the blank balance arm, so instead of the complete circle you just get 2 segments of the circle 180 degrees opposed. It's exactly what I have got fitted to my Honda D16 engined 216 GSi. Duncan

In response to Duncan the new rotor arm hasn't solved it. My son has just cleaned the idle air control valve still not solved. No we haven't changed the starter motor but getting really fed up now so going to see if I can get from our local europarts but my sons not confident about changing that. Anyone in the Oldham area?
