Just seen checking the pictures and not one r8 on it, no wonder if none of us turns up :mouthshut
We've had around 20 cars at this one in previous years. No-one's populating the list, that's all. It's the 25th anniversary, so they're looking for 1993 cars to put on a special stand. Guess that means the R8 then...

It’s normally well attended by R8’s. Usually plenty there!

According to the 'car entry form', pre-booking ended on 1st of July. Did you book yours by that date, or is there some other way of booking in now still so that we can park up with the club cars?

£10 on the door isn’t it?

But if you pay on the door you can only park in the general car park, not with the club cars - on that basis, for me, it's not worth going. Then there's all the hassle with possibly getting a parking fine. The info on the web site is too vague to enlighten me as to what I'm going to and whether I'd be participating or just visiting.

If you download the car entry form, then it's £7 in advance. But there's only a week to go now, so it'w whether you'd get your rear-view mirror hanger ticket in time. So it'll be £10 on the day for anyone now. The entry form makes no mention of a restriction on only being able to park in the visitor's car park on the day if you do this. The ticket tent where you present your pre-paid ticket is some way into the field - I can't see how they'd expect anyone paying on the day to drive up to it, pay £10, then drive all the way back and park on the gravel car park.

Supposedly, an advanced booking means you won't get picked up by the ANPR system in the park. I'm not sure how it works if you just make your way in and pay on the door, but for £10 you can safely assume it negates the ANPR parking charge. I guess the enforcement works on a reasonable delay of a week or two, so the organisers submit the list of paid-up attending vehicles AFTER the show is over and any outstanding parking fines are automatically cancelled.

Basically, every car follows the same route into the park and the display field is just a well-worn path off the gravel car park and onto the grass. The field is marked with "steel rod and bunting" style fencing and you're marshalled to the appropriate area. The R8 section is normally a straight drive past the ticket tent to the end of the field, a right turn, a drive about half the width of the field, and another right turn into our "bit." We've had people turn up unannounced and just park their R8 in our section.

The weather is looking good - it's usually a hot day. Not much shade on the field - you have to walk off to the trees on either side of it to find some. Food and drink are available, there's a Tannoy over which the host interviews various owners on the field, and there's a large autojumble. There's a raffle draw about 3pm and that's the unofficial end of the day.

On the entry form it states that postal applications need to be in by 1st July. The number of applications by the 1st July determines the size of the area each club is given. Anyone paying on the day will not be parked with the club. They will be directed to a separate area by the organisers. This is the same as last year. It is done like this so that the rally field is not as spread out with large gaps. Last year they had the autojumble down the middle with clubs on one side and on the day entries on the other.
This is probably the second largest rally (after POL) for BLARG cars in the country and inevitably needs a lot of organising. It is frustrating that entries have to be in 5 weeks before the show but like all these things, they are run on a voluntary basis and people only have so much time to give.
With regards the parking fee pre-booked cars registration numbers are given to the parking company in advance. I believe people on the day are either given a code to input on the machine when they exit the site or their registration numbers are recorded and handed to the parking company. You will be told on the day when you pay what the procedure is.

I downloaded the entry form when I got back from Gaydon (1st July) only to find that the car entry form says:-

"Pre booking will end on the 1st July!

and

"Club stands will be organised by the 1st of July and stand space will be allocated around how many vehicles have booked into your club stand. This is to reduce the number of ‘No-Shows’, giving everyone a chance at a club stand nearer the front! On the day arrivals are still absolutely fine however your vehicles will be parked in your vehicles registration year area."

This means, I presume, pre-booking did end on July 1st and people who pay on the day can't go on the club stand as there will not be enough space allocated. Instead we will be parked somewhere else in our vehicle's registration year area. It's unclear where this actually is.
