1991 416GTi
Re: 1990 416GSi
My GTi has half leather with lightning cloth, I think that was standard. You'll love the GTi, mine needs plenty of work as well, but the auto with the TC engine is lovely.
I'm sure someone will snap the GSi up.

Prism velour was a NCO. If the interior is Prussian Blue then the exterior must be either Azure Blue or Atlantic Blue, both of which are nice colours.
Prepace, the Lightning and half leather in a 416GTi is unusual. I wasn't aware it was available on the 416GTi. I know it was used on the 420GSi Sport that replaced the 416GTi. Perhaps it is a very late model just before the changeover. Where is Paul when you need him! He will know.

Re: 1990 416GSi
Had an interesting conversation today: for context I'm 22, and currently living at home.
I often find my dad just working on the GSi for the sake of it, it's a car he enjoys in a lot of ways, and in some ways I think it's ideal for him and a car he wishes he'd have found sooner (he used to drive 1.4 Civics but they lacked a certain something). My mum has also grown rather attached to it for reasons I simply can't explain.
Since this GTi came up, I knew I had to buy it, as it's pretty much my ideal R8. There's also the matter of 416GTis being exceptionally rare - 13 auto and 14 manual on the road according to How Many Left (yes I know it's not necessarily accurate). And of those 27 cars, how many have leather delete specified?
My mum seems keen on it too, but my dad isn't that keen on having three cars about the place, even though we have plenty space for them.
I was officially offered the GTi yesterday, and at the bargain price of £350 with a year's MOT, new alternator, recent ATF, recent tyres, and in Azure Blue, I just couldn't say no. I expected this would mean selling the GSi, sadly - this morning I jokingly said to my dad that perhaps we could keep it, and stick it on a classic policy. After all, we all like it (my parents more than me, I think!).
'I'll talk to your mum about it', he says - which in his words is 'yes', and a result for the books.
My parents will be using the GSi as a runabout, enabling them to go a bit easier on my mum's Cooper S, that does a few too many short journeys IMO. I might still be driving the GSi too, if I can find a classic policy that'll take me on. Still, it'll be 'my' car anyway, and I'll be working on both, and where I can, trying to bring both GSi and GTi to shows and the like.
The GTi is a bit more 'me' - with the Prussian Blue interior, slightly less shiny paint and a bit of rust to sort, it's a slightly less tidy car that I'm a bit less worried to run every day, while also being in pretty much as good a spec R8 as I'd like (I'm a D16 fiend) - and to boot I can continue to improve the GSi - and have two R8s on the drive!
I'm collecting it next Wednesday.

Re: 1990 416GSi & 1991 416GTi
Well done!
That's possibly the problem in my house, there is no one to say 'you've got too many cars!' apart from possibly the neighbours.
I'm also picking up another one this weekend.... that's going to be five that I've got now! This means that the Charcoal Metalic 216SLi will be looking for another good home before long as I don't want to leave her outside over winter, but that's for another thread.

It's Azure. I thought it was called Olympic for some reason, no idea why.montegoman wrote: ↑Mon Aug 27, 2018 12:28 pm Prism velour was a NCO. If the interior is Prussian Blue then the exterior must be either Azure Blue or Atlantic Blue, both of which are nice colours.

Not keen on Prussian personally.

Looks like I'll have to put the GSi on SORN for a while. Classic insurers won't touch me, and it's absurdly expensive for my dad. Doesn't make sense for my mum to do it as she'd be able to drive it third party anyway, and there's no use in only her being able to drive it as she has another car.
Hope winter is OK to it, it's rot free at the moment, and if it ends up laid up for a long time I'll have to take care that the cooling system doesn't do its party trick of rotting out the water channels on the head gasket.
