This is a re-run of the first day of the 1989 Press Launch route starting, and hopefully finishing, at the hotel where the world's press were hosted, Lucknam Park - https://www.lucknampark.co.uk/ near Chippenham, Wiltshire.
It was the first major event for the new owners of the hotel back in 1989 and they are keen to help us make the event a memorable one but we have to run it during the week so as not to conflict with their other activities. Therefore we have chosen Thursday October 10th, which is nearest date to the original launch date of October 11th.
We are being helped by Denis Chick who was the Rover Group Press Manager and ran the original event. He has the 'road book' of the event, copies of which will be provided for all entrants.
The outline of the event is :-
- meet-up at the hotel, probably at 11am
- some refreshments
- group/individual photo opportunity at the hotel
- 50-mile road drive
- return to the hotel.
We will be working out details and will post them here shortly.
We need to liaise with the hotel on numbers so whilst this is open to all R8s, we need people to have 'signed up' beforehand- it can't be a 'just-turn-up' event.
