Hello all

I need to obtain a valuation for one of my Dad's R8 218s for legal purposes and would be very grateful for help with this (the car is not for sale on the open market).

So essentially just tell me what you think it would be worth on the open market, or what you would be willing to pay.

1994 M-reg Rover 218SLD Turbo 5-door
Quicksilver 2 over Tempest 2 with grey interior
1.7 Peugeot XUD diesel engine with turbo & intercooler
91,000 miles
Current owner since 2007
Electric front windows and mirrors
Electric sunroof
Velour seat facings
Wood trim
Remote central locking and alarm
Power steering

Mechanicals:
Off the road since 2013
Had been started and driven on driveway occasionally until 2016, with some hunting at idle (present shortly before taken off the road)
Has not moved since 2018
Now engine will not start but turns over
Doesn't feel like enough resistance at pump priming button - suspect failed internal rubber diaphragm
Bonnet now stuck shut
Ran well on the road before 2013, bar the hunting at idle
Last MOT (2012) had advisories for rear trailing arm bushes, front anti-roll bar bushes, brake pipe and suspension corrosion
No remote for central locking

Body:
Both rear sills need welding (both had been poorly repaired in past)
Roof has crazed paint which had lifted in areas so needs re-spraying
Some rust at front & rear ends of LH front wing, front of LH rear wheelarch, area around front & rear doors and sill meeting point on both sides and bottom rear corner of RHR door
Bumpers faded and some deterioration of bright bumper/rubbing strip inserts

Interior:
Good condition apart for the items below
Headlining has mouldy spots and is coming away at corners
Some wood trim has deteriorated, varnish coming off the dashboard piece
Chronic boot leak
Has wood effect heater control bezel from later 200
Has radio cassette from later 200/25

Comes with the following spares:
Original black heater control bezel
Passenger electric window switch (used)
Electric mirror switch (used)
LH electric door mirror black triangle interior finisher
New unused Nikkai 4 sensor rear parking aid kit
And I believe that there is a set of polyurethane suspension bushes for the rear radius arms but I cannot find them at present
(Valuation is for the car including the spares as one whole lot, not car + spares valued individually)

Photos (car was wet under leaking car cover, so paintwork isn't as bad it is looks, it is just wet in the photos - n.b. towbar not to be included in valuation!):












Please let me know what you think the value of the car (inc spares) is and I will be extremely grateful

To someone who needs a parts car in that colour you might get more but 150-300 tops.

Negatives:
Needs recommissioning so all belts, water pump, thermostat fuel pump at the bare minimum
Welding work required is not for the faint hearted.
No mot and a lot of money before it could even attempt one.

Positives:
I’ve seen and repaired worse to get it back to road worthy.

For us to restore it you’d be looking at an easy £1500 plus paint.

Parted out you might still only reach the top of my estimate as all the items that do tend to bring some money are in poor condition. The difference being you’d be sat with the parts for some time.

I should also have mentioned that the interior has a light covering of mould but it appears it will all clean off fairly easily (apart from the above mentioned headlining). Some of the interior is also dismantled at the moment, hence no pictures inside.

I'll keep this thread open for more opinions on what it is worth for the next couple of weeks at least. All thoughts welcomed - keep them coming

Tbh, I think me and Hammond pretty much covered all bases from scrap value to restoration costs.

The chances of any offer going over £300 is slim when you can buy near mint cars for £550.

Yes I think you have, many thanks - although when it comes to justifying any valuation, having as many different opinion as possible will make that much easier. If they all come up with similar values then even better (although I am not trying to influence what folks might reply here - if opinion are genuinely much different, either way, then please be open).

I'm not sure there is going to be much of a market for old diesels soon, Bristol is talking about banning all diesels from the city centre completely, with a charge to enter a larger surrounding zone.

I would get a quote from a licensed vehicle dismantler to take it away; you need to sign off on a certificate of destruction, if it ends up dumped outside of the recycling system the last owner is held responsible! They may offer you something for it, or they may try to charge you to take it away.
