RTV wont break down like anaerobic sealant, which only cures when parts are clamped together so any left in oil ways would be washed away with the correct sealant , so yes that is possible .

I used  ELRING Curil K2  but there are others .

You need to use loctite 574 then use a roller to make sure there are no lumps etc. If you used RTV you could have blocked the oil ways damaging the lifters or cams/head. The other trouble is the cam ladder and head need to be a flush fit that's why you have to roll it flush as there's no bearings, using RTV can cause a gap between the two causing excessive clearance between the cam and cam carrier. If was you I wouldn't be driving it anywhere

Mine have been like this since 2003 when it was 18 months old, finally silenced last week. :slapme
What got yours to be quiet?

Started it for the first time in 8 months *laughs*, I have fully synth oil in it too, not sure if that makes a difference, did it
as an experiment, I can report no issues.
