Social Isolation jobs list on the R3 Vi

Post by GTiJohn »

Now that we are being encouraged to limit our social contact to reduce virus spread I thought I'd get on with a three small, interior jobs that were going to be done at the now cancelled Restoration Show.

1) Replace the cabin pollen filter
Well it's actually fitting one, as the slot was empty when I got in there...

Image

2) Replace the heater resistor to make fan speed 1 work again
You can see why it might not have been working!

Image

3) Replace the worn gearlever gaitor
It had got a bit shabby...

And now looks a lot better

A bit of shoe polish has subsequently improved the shine. Yes, I've spotted that the grain is different but it now seems to match the one on the centre console.

Stay safe in these difficult times :angel

Unfortunately I can't go anywhere near mine. They're both self isolating with corroder virus.

First the small interior jobs and now the small exterior ones...

Before, with BRM grille and clear indicators.

After, with original grille and orange indicators. Not necessarily better looking but original :angel

I took advantage of the first warm day to change the seats back to the originals and am very happy with the end result.

No pots of gold, or in fact anything, was hiding underneath the rear seats, confirming to my mind that they've hardly ever been used.

I did have a few moments of 'which is correct hand of seat?' as the rake adjusters are on the inside, but got there in the end. I also worked out that the Haynes manual is WRONG when it comes to taking the rear seat backrest out! To release the centre hinges mine states that the retaining bolt should be turned clockwise to release the inboard hinges when it is clearly anti-clockwise.

Image

I now have a rather nice set of MG ZR seats to sell and a passenger-side height-adjusting set of runners. These MG seats had height-adjustment on both sides but it wasn't possible to fit the CD autochanger (see separate thread) with that mechanism in the way.

I'm going to rapidly run out of jobs to do at this rate.... :slapme

Those original VI seats are lush! Fitted to the 218is if I recall (remember how soft they were when my parents test drove one and ended up ordering a VI-wish I could find a mint, low mile example now) too. Fairly sure at some point the VI received the equally lovely half leather with red piping as standard?
