IS IT POSSI9BLE TO CONNECT A 2PIN WINDOW REGULATOR TO A 4 PIN PLUG AS CANT LOCATE A 4 PIN JUST DO AWAY WITH 2 OF THE WIRES WILL THIS STILL WORK JUST TO GO UP AND DOWN

Should work - I guess the other 2 pins are for the limit switch? If this is true, maybe the problem will be that if the windows have an automatic one-touch full-down button (on the earlier cars you get this on the driver's window with an extra-hard press of the button in the down direction) then without the limit switch signal the motor will just keep whirring forever and quite possibly burn out (unless the window controller switches off by default after a certain amount of time).

You could try adding some sort of limit switch if this is the case...

I suppose it's a matter of finding the two motor wires on the Rover harness and connecting it up. It should be the two that are thicker than the other two, to handle the motor current. I don't think you'd damage it if you got the wires wrong as a motor connected across limit switch pins won't cause anything to happen. You might get the motor wiring back to front but just be ready to disconnect the wiring if the window tries to go up against the frame when you press "down."
