Naff tyres/out of balence wheels are the most common cause of this. Before going any further I suggest getting the wheels balenced and if this doesn't work, new tyres.

Sounds to me like you might need to reverse your process of elimination :blink

When did it start?
What did you change before it started?

For the car to shake like that, I'd be heading for symptoms causing camber/bodyline issues.

But as T1M says, unbalanced tyres/wheels are the common cause. Especially if you've just replaced them. New doesn't necessarily mean they're rolling right!

The Rover 214/200 has both rear and front tracking adjustments. Have a full geometrical front and rear wheel/camber/castor angle allignment first of all at a reputable service centre. ie ATS. Worth every penny and will eliminate anything more serious. At some point your car could have been severely "kerbed" putting everything out of alignment or BENT! At high speed this will result in "wheel wobble"! Have ALL wheels balanced, not just the front! Check for bulges in tyres! Have the wheel bearings both front and rear checked for excessive wear. Is the handbrake and footbrake well clear of contact at speed? Drive shafts cannot be a problem. So many IF's, sorry! Dave W

You would hear some noises with the diff....they tend to whine a bit at certain mid cruise speeds if there's a problem...like 30-50mph.

You haven't mentioned any noises....? :S

If your geometry is out...or the wheels are set at the wrong camber/castor...the tyres will always tell you.

Once you've been out on a drive, feel the temperature of the treads. You may find one/two hotter than the others. That's because they're working harder and dealing with more friction on the road. This will give you a clue on whether the toe in/out settings are wrong.

Lowering the suspension can also cause this.

Run your palm across and along the tread of a tyre. If they're working on the wrong camber/toeing settings, they tend to feather quite quickly. You will feel uneven wear on the tyre - it gets noticeable very fast.

It can be caused by worn bushes, universal joints, worn steering/suspension parts and ball joints. Or...replacing those parts and not resetting to the correct angles when they're put back together.

As David said....it's worth getting them checked.

This sounds pretty serious to me. I, personally would just take it to a garage and have a professional mechanic look at it for me :blushing

When i had a wobble it was my front brake disks that had become warped and my front pads were uneven so changing them for new sorted my wobble out.
