I was given this VIN to decode by someone looking for a new sump for their Rover 211:-
SARRFHNDGYD465129
As far as I could work out it decodes as:-
SAR= World Make Identifier
RF=Marque & Model
H=Vehicle Class=200
N=Body Type=3 Door
D=Engine Type=1100 16v MPI Petrol
G=Transmission=5 speed manual RHD
Y=Model Change Point = Year 2000
D=Manufacturing Plant=Longbridge
465129 - Vehicle Serial Number
BUT - Apparently, it's not a 16v engine it's an 8v Metro/100 engine. The car is a Rover 211 and needs a pressed steel sump, not the cast sump that is on 16v engines.
Is my VIN decoding source duff? Or did I not interpret it correctly? Or is this VIN # wrong?
Thanks,
Duncan

Re: VIN Decoding
Thanks Chris - I've let him know. I presume it's the same as the 211 steel sump?

Re: VIN Decoding
Your VIN decoding is correct.
From what I know there's never been a 1.1 8V engine option in the R3.
Are you sure that's the engine in the car?

Re: VIN Decoding
There definitely was a 1.1 8V R3, I learnt to drive in one.

Re: VIN Decoding
My mistake, indeed there was.
It's just not been properly documented as an engine option in the VIN decoding documentation released by Rover, incorrectly labelled as 1100 16V MPi instead of 8V MPi.
The letter D in the VIN stands for 1100 8V. MGR/XPart EPC decodes it correctly. But every other documentation states it's 16V.
