I'm looking for the yellow sticky stuff used to stick the door membrane to the door, behind the door card. Any ideas?

I'd ideally like the stuff used in the factory or as close to it as possible.

You need to do a search!

I asked this question a few years ago & was advised to use the black windscreen sealant. I never got around to the job, partly thro' ill health so cannot comment as to it's suitability.

Thanks guys-I'm looking to keep things as OEM as possible so was hoping to find either the stuff used at the factory or a very close match.

you can buy this ebay - its grey or black these days but works really well and is not tiger grip or else. Off hand cannot remember what its called but will go and look at the box I bought some in. A snail like coil is about £15 and will do at least two or three doors and some but it is as near identical to the hard defunct stuff that the yellow stuff becomes with age. Plus when you go in the door a few months later the plastic peels off and can be reused as well since it still sticky like blu tac. Or have you sorted this issue

Some research and memory searching - its butyl roll - search ebay (other sites are available) and you find a flat snail like roll for around £10. Like seam sealant but in roll or tape form. Great stuff. Bought 3 rolls for my two cars and half way through the second roll but think I had a fourth roll sometime before so two aught to do the whole car all four doors - like the original stuff but grey or black but works exactly the same. I had a missing plastic sheet on one of the my doors which I had a borrow from a spare door to get standard - yes I know you cannot see it!

Surprisingly the membrane is quite important - even if you can't see it. IIRC it's there to help stop water ingress from the outer side of the door (i.e. off the door glass and channels) getting into the inner doorcard, carpet, central locking and door electrics. I was quite surprised how important it is, as you wonder why it's there (other than to be in your way when you are working on the winder mechanism, glass and door handles) - unless someone was pulling my chain, of course!

Doesn't stop water ect getting into the electrical parts as they and wiring etc are between the plastic sheet and the inner skin of the door. Is quite important on R8's tho as the door cards are make from terrible material if they get damp behind they start to deform

On my MG Maestro the door card material is simply glued onto a hardboard sheet.

If the plastic membrane is missing, which is often the case on second hand cars, the hardboard quickly gets wet and starts to rot with exciting types of fungi etc.

I am aware of the need for the membrane but to make sure it was there and to use a proper Rover one taken from another door still would be considered a bit sad by some! That was more my point but the advice is noted. Like my cars to be proper as per factory where I can be. I was annoyed I could not find the right colour adhesive but suspect that this is due to water or age related issues and the grey I have used is probably about right.
