Rover 200 Gti
Rover 200 Gti
Hi I was hoping someone could give me some advice please. I have just bought a 200 Gti 5 door which has got a full leather replacement interior, the door cards in the back have the electric window switches in them. Is it possible to make the rear windows electric and is the wiring already pre-installed? Any help would be very much appreciated, Ash.

Re: Rover 200 Gti
Very few R8 200's had four way electric windows, always came as part of the 'luxury Pack' I believe. The 416 GTI they came as standard I believe.
I've only seen a luxary pack on a 216 GSi, so I would expect that the looms will need adding to.

In my 216 GTi the wiring was there upto the door loom in the B pillar but not in the actual door itself

Re: Rover 200 Gti
We have it fitted to one of our G reg GSi 216 cars but have never seen it fitted to another car either in scrap yards or on show field since 2005. When I changed over the door I had to change over the door wiring too. Not the same but cannot comment about the loom to the door since I did not alter this. Rear door cards are different too as they do not have the manual hole punched out and the square hole for the switch is on a different place. Kit must be about but the four way window switches are very hard to find and the spare one I did eventually find (few years looking) on ebay was cheap; perhaps no one really wanted it? Online in photographs have seen the set up on a few early 400s but usually only with full leather pack. Never managed to pick up spare rear door mechanisms so am just hoping that they never fail or if they do I can replace a dud motor from the front kit. It is rather nice to have electrics all round and I miss it in the other twin.

It was fitted to the J reg' GSI auto that I unfortunately had to scrap last year, perhaps GSI Turbo will know if the parts are still for sale?

Re: Rover 200 Gti
I recently retro-fitted the rear electric windows to my 1990 216 Gsi. I Sourced all the parts over a few years as they came up on ebay.
The installation was reasonably easy. The wiring was already there in my car from the fuse box (below the steering wheel) via the driver's door window switch pack then onto the rear door connectors in the B pillars.
The 4 way drivers electric window switch pack is a straight swap for the 2 way switch pack. The wiring for the extra rear switches was already there.
I had to make two small wiring looms for each rear door to connect the rear motors and rear switches then onto the door connector on the side of the rear door.
In the back the rear door card inserts need the metal backing cutting to accommodate the switch (there is a hole already in the door card itself which you can use as a template).
I also obtained two round plastic blanking covers to cover the hole from the now obsolete window winder. These came from the front door cards of a Maestro with factory fitted front electric windows and I colour coded these to fit my interior trim.
Removing the rear door manual window winding assembly is a bit tricky but it is a straight swap with the electric window mechanism. You need to power up the motor to align the fixing holes.
Sounds a lot of work, but I took my time and it all went in easily in the end.

Re: Rover 200 Gti
Thank you to all for your information. I'm still yet to collect the car but can't wait until I can start improving on what is already car in great condition. I love the Honda D16a9 engine my dad had it in his Integra Ex16.

Speak to member “roverman68”.
He fitted them to a 216SLi which we took (many years later) on a “banger rally” challenge to drive from Calais to Romania.
Ironically we sold the car to another team, who drove the car home and sold it back to roverman.
He’d fitted the rear switches in the hole the window wipers used previously.
