Removed the side boot liners on my R8 400 whilst looking for a water leak .
I noticed that one is cracked in a few places. Not sure if this is old age or whether it was damaged during recent rbody repair work.

Looks like its made of some sort of cardboard composite .

Has anyone tried repairing these?

I was thinking of using some fibreglass mating and resin just to bolster up the areas with the cracks in .

Just wondering whether the fibreglass will take to this material or will cause further damage?

Alternatively I can glue the joints or use gaffer tape to bolster the areas

I have used the fibre glass/resin combination to repair several areas in my cars over the years.

I tend to use the fine "tissue like" glass fibre mat which gives a lower/flatter profile once cured but in an area that is not visible, like that shown, the more usual mat would be ok.

Most recently on my 1990 Rover Gsi I repaired the driver's side door card which had given way at the top and the parcel shelf around the fixings.

Just be aware that the resin does tend to flow quite easily before it sets so you might have to make a "dam" to keep it in place.

Sounds like it is a good solution if you’ve used it elsewhere.
Thanks for the tip on the resin. Sort of thing that I would get in a right mess with and ruin the rest pf the panel.

Yes that was my first thought but wondered what the probability was of getting one undamaged after removal and then undamaged through the post.
