Electric Mirrors

Post by Bean66 »

Hi All

Hopefully my idea is as simple in reality as it is in my head.

So my Streetwise is a poverty spec one with, horror horror, :scared manual door mirrors.

Electric ones and the switch seem cheap enough to buy but well fitting.

My thought is that unless Rover were kind of a bit dumb the wiring loom should be pretty standard and has the feed for such things already built in as they were std on some models as well as being an option on others. I can’t see the cost saving of a few wires would be much and if you have to have multiple loom versions the potential for chaos on the production line would not be worth a saving of virtually nothing, but given I’m not a production engineer what do I know.

So thats the question do Streetwises (is that the plural??) or R25's as i'm sure the same will apply, without electric mirrors have the wiring for them already in place so i can easily retrofit them.

If someone knows either way that would be great but if not has anyone any idea who might know.

Cheers Bean

The best way to find out is to look on your car. the plug for the switch is above the fusebox cover, the mirrors plug in just below the mirror trim behind top of door card.

Well I'm not sure about the bubble shape cars by comparison but my R8 214si did not have either elec windows or mirrors wiring into the doors, from what i remember, but the guts of it like power connection and place for the relays for Windows was there. I swapped elec front Windows from a donor sei to mine so had all the bits, door cards etc but i didn't bother with the elec Windows. Pulling the cabling through into the door from the jamb in the sheath was a Pita as i recall.

So anythings possible but i think you may need more than just the switch and mirrors. If there's nothing behind the mirror cover on the inside then take off the door card and see if any wiring connection is prefitted....

Hi All

I'll have a look at what is in place, not expecting anything in the doors themselves but hoping that the harness had the wires in situ rather than having to start from scratch.

Heres hoping.

Cheers
