I'm in the same position as a 17 year old or 18 by the time I'm able to learn to drive and get the car working again. I have started looking I hear Footman James are quite good

Also with some brief research Adrian Flux has a dedicated department for younger drivers of classic cars

But a newer car then and build up some no claims no insurance company is going to be happy with a new driver in a old car with no safety features

My daughter, who has just turned 19, passed her test last week. I've insured her 2002 R25 1.4 in her name, with my wife and me as additional drivers, for "just" 750 quid. That is cheap for first timers. The additional drivers often help bring the price down, or at least cost no more.

We got the quote via the Compare the Market website and the insurance company is Marmalade (silly name) who specialise in new drivers. They require trackers to be fitted to the car.
Out in the desert with an old Jeep and a Volvo.
Back home: wife's 1993 216 DOHC Cabriolet, daughter's 2002 R25 and my 1969 MGC GT

Unfortunately no one in my family drives, my mum can't drive due to eyesight and my did is 74 and won't learn unless it was necessary
