Any 17cm (6.75”) speakers should fit. You’ll have to prise the old ones out of the mounts and new ones will have enough cut outs/screw holes to ensure no faffing about.
I got Pioneers for the front of my SEi, and Sony for the back. The Sony ones were a little more expensive but are far superior to the Pioneers, so I’d definitely recommend Sonys.

For the record, the speakers I got for the back were Sony XS-GT1328F. These are reasonably priced I think, and sound brilliant compared to the Pioneers:

In the end, I decided to go with the cheapest Pioneers front and rear, given that it’s not a ‘daily’. I clearly didn’t read the thread thoroughly, as I ordered the 4” ones for the rear, only to find they were too small! Another special trip over to Halfords in Evesham!
Paul, you mentioned adapters for the wiring. Do you have anymore details? Thanks.

It's not really that much to do. Luckily, most new speakers come with new spade terminals and a length of wire attached which will sort you out. The only problem is, once the leads are attached to the new speakers, what do you do with the other end of the leads and how do you connect them into the Rover loom. One option is just to cut the Rover plugs off the ends, bare some of the wire, twist the wires with the bare ends of the new leads and wrap insulating tape around each join so they don't short to each other or the car body or anything else metal as the whole car is negative-earth.
The neater solution is to find some blades the same size as the ones on the old Rover speakers. These will plug into the Rover loom, then you can attach the new speaker cables to the spades. So you never cut off the old spade terminals from the Rover loom, which is kind of nicer really.
Paul is intimating that you can get spade terminals with wires attached, which you twist with the new cables that came with your new speakers. The spade size may be 6.2mm, 4.8mm, 3.2mm or 2.8mm - I can't remember. Best thing to do is to measure across the spades on the back of the Rover speakers and then try and find some spade pre-wired short leads.
You may even be able to get completely wired converter cables - a female spade at one end the right width for your new speakers (probably 3.2mm or similar) and a male blade at the other end for the Rover loom (probably 4.8mm or similar).

That’s would be the preferred solution as a) I don’t like fiddly jobs and b) I like to keep things as original as possible!
