PHIL.
Next came the '94 model year GSi Turbo, with Ash Grey (dark) 'Silverstone' upholstery, and six-spoke alloy wheels. No front foglamps and electric windows were only fitted in the front (not even optional for the rear)
Finally, the '94.5 model year GSi Turbo, essentially the same as the '94MY but with an airbag and enhanced security system. This is the version that I owned from 1997 until 2004.
The 420 Turbos did not sell well, and some of the original-spec versions remained unsold into 1995.

I can't remember insurance group, I seem to remember it is 17/18 on the old grouping scale.phil58hatch wrote:GOSH! they are thin on the ground, guess they must be collectable?
What insurance group do they come under?is your hatch turbo decent on insurance?
Thank's for information.
PHIL.
It isn't too bad, but it is on a modified insurance policy. It would probably be cheaper on a classic policy but nearly all are not interested as it has some modifications.

Re: Rover 220 Hatch & 420 Saloon Turbo Register Statistics
Looking at the 'how many left.co.uk' website, the following conclusions can be drawn, based on peak number of cars registered in the UK when new:matthewsemple wrote:That is really interesting and reveals an extremely low survival rate for these cars - if the 1100/500/250 figures that are often quoted are to be believed.
I have always thought that the 420GSi Sport Turbo debate has been a bit strange. In Turbo form, all the 420GSi models were Sport versions so they just dropped it when the 220GSi Turbo came out and they became 420GSi Turbo. I cannot see that there is much different between the 420GSi Turbo and the 420GSi Sport Turbo apart from model year changes (like the wheels) so Rover dropped the name and the DVLA certainly wouldn't be interested in such detail.
220 GTi Turbo: 244 (in 1994)
220 GSi Turbo: 169 (in 1995)
420 GSi Turbo: 296 (in 1995)
Those figures should give a guide as to the numbers originally built and sold into the UK market: obviously the accuracy of registration data cannot be guaranteed (as discussed elsewhere) and there will already have been unsold stock and premature write-offs
Unless BMIHT have any production records available, which could give a more accurate figure?
Compare that with the peak of 1849 Turbo Coupes.
And what happened to the 5 Turbo Cabriolets??!
