I did the dress-up bit (I was going for exactly what you describe), but I wasn't part of a couple

We could have done a me + Jeremy photo, but that would have raised a whole series of questions that didn't really exist in 1989, at least where target market advertising was concerned
But you're right, there always seemed to be a glamorous lady at a front door, waving off her hubby in a 200 or 400 series. And the luggage clearly visible in the open boot changed from tartan to black leather pretty much with the arrival of the R8, welcoming in the "sophisticated" 1990s
