R8 overhaul cost

Post by henryiett »

Hi, I am just looking at costing the restoration of my R8 214Si that hasn't run since about 2002. It is in good cosmetic condition. Just needs a total mechanical restoration. I am just looking at rough ballpark figure to get it sent off for overhaul at a specialist

If you’re wanting all gaskets doing, full service, including brake fluid, radiator, plus brake discs and pads etc etc, I reckon you’re looking at £1k
Current:
1996-N 214 SEi, 2018 Volvo V40 Cross Country, 2015 VW Up!
Former:
214 SEi x3, 216 SLi, 216 Cabriolet, 416 GSi, 420 GSi Tourer, 25, 45, 75

Like idk if that is enough after that engine hasn't started since 2002, as I suspect it needs a full rebuild

you'll need tank drop, lines cleaned, fresh fuel.
all fluids replaced, belts, water pump, thermostat maybe head gasket depending on the mileage as if you are doing the belt there isn't that much more labour involved.
head of you can check the bores and piston rings for rust.
If the car was stored with coolant in, great. If not and new rad may be needed.
20 years you'll also need tyres
Then obviously bushes ect checked and you are ready for mot.

Give us a shout if you need any help
