MPG figures

Post by goldenbrown »

:S Just a quick pole of members, What type of MPG do you get from your 414 16v's on a run average speed 30 to 60 about 25 miles???

Trying to get an angle on the practicle side of using the rover everyday for commuting or do i need a di**el.

On a good long motorway run they'll manage 37-40mpg if driven sensibly.
Round town 32-35 typically.

Well that is what out old 214SLi 16V MPI averaged over many thousands of miles.

I agree with those figures. My daily commute in my 1994 414 is 15 miles each way with mixed driving through town/traffic jams/lights and a few miles of dual carriegeway/A roads. I've calculated my mpg at 35 by checking between fill-ups, which is only a rough guide (due to air locks, etc). To be more accurate would require checking over thousands of miles, and 32 - 35 sounds realistic.
On longer motorway runs runs I reckon I get 37-42 mpg, depending on number of passengers, luggage, speed, etc. Not bad after 106000 miles! :D

MPI models use more fuel than SPI models.

My SPI averaged well over 40- here in the flat lands of Cambridgeshire, and I once got 45 on a long run. :)

However my MPI does less, probably due to lower-gearing in top as well as the extra power.

In fact there is little difference between my 1.4 214 and my 1.8 MG ZS120.
Officially the combined figures are 40.1 for the 214, and the 38.9 for the MG!
I would agree with these tests.
1990 214GSI- spares died at 121k
1995 214SI- daily runner 95K
2004 MG ZS 120 - sunday best car 28k
